FTIR Microscopy and Spectroscopy

Analytical servicesFTIR Microscopy and Spectroscopy

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is a powerful analytical technique. It enables the precise characterization of materials by examining their infrared spectra.

Every chemical substance has its unique characteristic infrared (IR) spectrum, similar to a fingerprint. The IR spectrum provides information about the chemical composition of an unknown substance or impurity, and in the best case an organic residue can be clearly identified using IR spectroscopy.

With classic IR spectroscopes, organic substances such as powder or liquids can be analysed. In addition, IR microscopes enable a spatially resolved measurement at defined points on a surface (e.g. at residues or spots on components).

When and where is FTIR microscopy or spectroscopy useful?

  • Material determination for organic contaminants

  • Identification of organic residues/contaminants on surfaces: Flux residues, particles, fibres, films, oils, etc.

  • Organic distribution on metallic surfaces for evaluation of purity or adhesion issues/problems

  • Investigation of coatings, lacquers & potting compounds regarding cross-linking/curing

  • Identification & quantification of organic compounds: powders, liquids

We offer:
